Another fantastic Morrison and MacKay whisky, this time from their “Celebration Of The Cask” selection.
This particular Longmorn (my first) is 23 y.o and bottled at cask strength.
On the nose it has big notes of green fruit, a mild pepperiness and a faint trace of fresh, clean wood. Being cask strength the nose is a little prickly initially. The palate has some quite strong cereal notes with lemon pepper and green pine with a hint of tea like tannins creeping in. The finish is almost like a bitter chocolate fading to what can only be described as peppered pear drops.
Water calms the nose and increases the chocolate notes, bringing out a sweetness that wasnt there before.
Not everyone is into cask stength whiskies and they can at times be a bit challenging. Stick with them and you may uncover a few gems, like this one.
