Last weeks tasting notes on the new Wemyss Malts expressions continue tonight with notes on their Islay based blend, Peat Chimney.
Peat Chimney Wemyss Malts, 46%abv (available here)
This is deceptively gentle on the nose with notes of mild and sweet peatiness. Definitely feels punchier than the previous two. The palate is pleasantly peated with green fruit notes leading to a more brine based feeling, anchovies and olives. The finish brings notes of white ash, next day bonfire, pencil wood and slight earthy tones. All in all very pleasant and quite drinkable. If you are after a ‘peat monster’ this isn’t for you however.
