Wemyss Malts – Part 4 of 4 (the final chapter) – Kiln Embers

As part of last weeks live Twitter Tasting I was lucky enough to sample Wemyss Malts new release Kiln Embers. It is a limited release (in as much as 12000 bottles is limited) and a brand new expression for the Wemyss Malts range.

Very punchy peat on the nose, there is peat smoke covering green cereal and smouldering damp leaves.  The initial big hit of peat fades quite quickly to smoky herbs and white ash. The smoke lingers and leaves the faintest taste of brine. Peaty, Phenolic, Ashy, Sweet Brine. There is a lot going on here and its masterfully blended. The finish is initially quite short but leaves that delicious lingering aftertaste for quite some time. A masterpiece.

The great thing about the entire range is their lack of chill filtration and the fact they are kept at 46% abv. Big flavours and just the right amount of kick. Incredibly well blended and with balls.
